Rebecca earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in harp performance from the University of North Texas. While attending UNT, she was a finalist in the American Harp Society National Harp Competition in San Diego. She teaches Class Piano I and II and Private Piano at Cedar Valley. Ms. Scherschell has maintained a busy professional freelance career as a harpist, including numerous performances with the Dallas and Fort Worth Symphony Orchestras, the Dallas Opera Orchestra, the Fort Worth Dallas Ballet Orchestra, the pit orchestra for the Dallas Summer Musicals, Casa Mañana at the Bass Performance Hall and Six Flags Over Texas, as well as solo performances with the Texas Chamber Orchestra. She performed nightly for 14 years at the Loews Anatole Hotel in its L’Entrecôte Restaurant, and she has spent much of her time working in area recording studios recording background music for radio and television commercials, films, CDs and children’s educational soundtracks. Professional highlights include performing with Natalie Cole, Bernadette Peters, Ray Charles, Harry Connick Jr., Johnny Mathis, Bob Hope, Yanni, Three Dog Night, the Moody Blues and Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme; she toured the Southwest and Mexico with Frank Sinatra on his last concert tour. She is a member of the Octavia Harp Ensemble, a performing and touring group of eight professional harpists. The group has two CDs produced on the Traditional Sounds label. Ms. Scherschell plays at weddings and parties and gives recitals and lecture recitals throughout the area. She divides her teaching schedule between Cedar Valley College and Tarrant County College Northeast, where she teaches music appreciation and music reading, and the Arlington ISD, where she teaches harp.
